Call for Workshop Proposals

The MCLI 2014 Teaching and Learning with Technology Conference is just a few months away. The conference committee is now accepting proposals for 50-minute interactive presentations or 2-hour hands-on workshops that focus on the intersection between technology and teaching.

Conference Keynote Speaker

Dr. José Antonio Bowen, Dean of the Meadows School at SMU, has taught at Stanford, Miami and Georgetown, written over 100 scholarly articles, edited the Cambridge Companion to Conducting, and appeared as a musician in Europe, Africa, the Middle East and the US with Stan Getz, Bobby McFerrin, and others. He has written a symphony (nominated for the Pulitzer Prize), music for Hubert Laws and Jerry Garcia, and his latest CD, Uncrowded Night. He is an editor for Jazz: The Smithsonian Anthology and the author of Teaching Naked: How Moving Technology out of your College Classroom will Improve Student Learning (Jossey-Bass, 2012). He is currently on the boards of the Journal for the Society for American Music, Jazz Research Journal and the Library of Congress, and is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts in England.

Breakout Session Topic Areas

The conference will provide a rich and diverse learning experience through exciting, interactive and thought-provoking presentations and workshops focused on relevant topic areas in educational technologies. Presenters will showcase effective instructional use of learning technologies and innovative ideas in the following topic areas.

  • Innovation in Higher Education: This topic area is designed for presentations that focus on innovations in Maricopa Community Colleges and higher education institutions around the nation. Presentations may also include new innovative ideas that are in the development stage.
  • Re-imagining Learning Spaces: From experimental and flipped classrooms to digital envirnoments space can have a significant impact on learning. How does learner expectations, the principles and activities that facilitate learning, and the role of technology influence such spaces?
  • Open Educational Resources (OER): Open educational resources (OER) are teaching, learning, and research resources that are copyright-free or have been released under a copyright license that permits others to reuse, revise, remix and redistribute them. Examples of OER include: full courses, course modules, syllabi, lectures, homework assignments, quizzes, lab and classroom activities, pedagogical materials, games, simulations, and many more resources contained in digital media collections from around the world.
  • Engaging Learners: This topic area focuses on pedagogy and technology tools to engage learners and provides hands-on workshops for faculty to experience the learning.
