Chose the app because I wanted a technologically elegant way to put current, psychology-related RSS feeds into students’ hands. The app has a “magazine” feel to it–pages flip, headlines and images on each page link to stories. My favorite RSS feed is the “Psychology Today” feed. Current stories on current research, yet very readable for students. When I was in a classroom with student iPads, I had groups of students look up a topic, discuss, and then via the Apple TV in the room, project their topic on screen and explain to the rest of the class. This creates connections between the students, connects them to everyday implications of psychology, gives them experience presenting an idea to a large class in their own words and reinforces the science of psychology. Great app. Highly recommended.
Flipboard allows users to create a customized “newspaper” experience. It is great for keeping up in current events especially for targeted topics and subject areas. The program allows for a variety of disciplines to benefit from its many sources of content.
