OER HEROES

Program Details

The OER Heroes Award recognizes outstanding contributions to open educational resources at Mesa Community College. These contributions may include significant leadership, open educational resource (OER) development, research, or advocacy by faculty, staff, administration, or students.
Anyone may propose a nomination and individuals may self-nominate. Individual award nominations are made in writing via the online form (see below). The MCC OER Committee reviews nominations and selects the awardees. Awardees will receive a certificate and will be recognized through various channels.

Selection Process

All faculty and staff are eligible to receive a nomination for their accomplishments and contributions to OER. The nominations run annually. The MCC OER Committee announces nomination solicitations open in the Fall. After nominations close, the the submissions are scored using a rubric. The top three (3) highest submissions are selected. The final selections are announced during Open Ed Week, usually the first week of March. The selection committee is comprised of MCC OER Committee members.

OER  are a  powerful asset to  attaining  the  fourth United Nations Sustainable  Development  Goal  (SDG):  “Ensure  inclusive  and   equitable   quality   education   and   promote   lifelong   learning   opportunities for all.” As such the nomination form was aligned to an adapted version of competencies (link to infographic needed) for open education is adapted from an original competency framework made available in 2016 by the International Organisation of La Francophonie (IOF) under a Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International License.
